I was a Sergeant in the New York Guard, and having served with Honor and having seen the actions of deadly cowards who dared to attack us using our own planes as weapons which took the lives of some 3,000 plus lives brings me to what I am about to say. I invite you to be apart of Homeland Defense, and you never have to worry about leaving your State if you are a part of a State Defense Force (once called a State Militia) in your state. The above ribbons I received three of them for my service following the event's of September 11, 2001, the other is my six month service ribbon, the other award's are:
The New York State Military Commendation, The NY Guard Commander's Citation and the last is the Defense of Liberty Award...
There are many who would question someone for saying they are apart of an organized "militia", but the New York Guard is what is known as a State Defense Force which operates to aid Federal, State and Local authorities in times of emergency.
Each State Defense Force in my opinion is special (but the NY Guard is my favorite) and I am proud to have been apart of a fine support system that shares in the awesome responsibility of protecting our Country right in our own states.
The New York Guard is just one of many State Defense Forces in the United States, as you can see by just a few of the patches above. We serve to protect the people in our Country and our State, and to do so the State Defense Forces like the New York Guard need you.
The New York Guard has a long and proud tradition of service in the State of New York and its role in Homeland Security is vital.
As is the role of all our State Defense Forces around the United States, and the more missions they receive, the more they are able to protect and serve as Soldiers.
And let us all remember those who have died on 11 September 2001 as well as all wars and attacks against us, for they shall never be forgotten...
The price of freedom is never high, but not fighting for that freedom is...
